13 ‘No Kings’ protests planned in Alabama as Trump hosts military parade: Here’s where
On June 14, Flag Day, thirteen communities across Alabama will participate in the “No Kings: Nationwide Day of Defiance,” protesting President Trump’s $45 million military parade planned for the same day. The protests, organized as part of the Indivisible movement, emphasize that genuine power lies in grassroots action rather than orchestrated displays. With 1,700 communities joining the effort nationwide, the Alabama cities involved include Birmingham, Montgomery, and Mobile, among others.
The Montgomery chapter of the 50501 Movement stated that the day honors the nation’s strength for the people, criticizing the exploitation of public funds for personal celebrations. Additionally, participants aim to address broader issues such as immigration policies, voting rights, and healthcare access, asserting that while many Americans struggle, Trump chooses to showcase a lavish spectacle.
The Birmingham chapter highlighted their solidarity with Central Alabama Pride, emphasizing a united stand for democracy and inclusivity. Despite assurances of peaceful protest, Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch’s recent comments raised concerns, suggesting possible aggressive responses to demonstrators obstructing traffic. Following public backlash, Burch modified his stance, clarifying he did not advocate for violence but expressed frustration over disruptive protests.
Organizers like Maura Mandyck remain committed to peaceful assembly and stress the importance of maintaining a safe environment for all participants, emphasizing their six past protests in Mobile were conducted without incident and respect for the community.
