UAB Investigates Assault Involving Football Players
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Police and Public Safety are currently investigating an alleged assault involving three UAB football players that occurred on Saturday morning, November 22, at the Football Operations Center. A spokesperson confirmed that following the incident, one player was taken into custody, ensuring no threats to campus safety. Birmingham Fire and Rescue transported two injured players to the hospital, where they are reported to be in stable condition.
UAB released a statement expressing gratitude for the players’ recovery and emphasizing its commitment to the safety and well-being of all students during this troubling time. The injured players were confirmed to have sustained stab wounds, occurring just hours before the team’s Senior Day game at Protective Stadium. While UAB has not disclosed the names of the players involved to protect patient privacy and due to the ongoing investigation, Daniel Mincey has been identified as the suspect taken into custody by UAB Campus Police.
