9 Veterans Day events in Alabama to honor military members
Honoring Heroes: Veterans Day Celebrations Across Alabama
Each November 11th, the nation comes together to honor military veterans on Veterans Day, a federal holiday established in 1954. In Alabama, residents will participate in various ceremonies and parades while schools and government offices close to commemorate the day.
Among the notable events is the National Veterans Day Parade in Birmingham, which begins at 1 PM and holds the distinction of being the oldest Veterans Day parade in the U.S., initiated by WWII veteran Raymond Weeks. In Gadsden, the Season of Honor Parade takes place on November 6, with participants gathering downtown. Tuscaloosa hosts its own Veterans Parade on the same day at the VA Medical Center, alongside a program featuring Capt. Chad Fleming as keynote speaker on November 11.
Selma, Montgomery, Huntsville, and Mobile will each celebrate on November 11, with activities ranging from city parades to a flag-raising ceremony at Mobile’s Battleship Memorial Park. The American Village in Montevallo will host a veterans salute featuring family-friendly activities, while Auburn’s ceremony will be officiated by Mayor Ron Anders, featuring choir performances and tributes.
As communities gather to reflect and celebrate, Alabama’s rich array of events not only honors those who served but also strengthens communal ties through shared gratitude and remembrance. For an extensive list of events, residents are encouraged to reach out and share experiences using social media.
