Coosa Christian football out of AHSAA playoffs through 2025 season
Coosa Christian’s football team has been disqualified from the playoffs after the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) discovered the participation of an ineligible player in multiple games this season. Initially reported as playing in just one game, the player actually participated in at least five contests, including wins against Cleveland, Susan Moore, Falkville, Southeastern, and Cold Springs. As a result, Coosa Christian was forced to forfeit those victories, adjusting their overall record to 4-6, with a 1-5 mark in the region, and ending their playoff aspirations for the 2024 season.
In addition to forfeiting games, Coosa Christian has incurred an undisclosed fine and has been placed on probation through the end of the 2025 season, under AHSAA’s restrictive measures. If certain conditions are not met, the Conquerors may be barred from Championship play in 2025 as well. Despite ending their season with a commendable 35-21 win over Tuscaloosa Academy, the official record reflects a disheartening downward trend, marking the third instance of sanctions within two years.
In 2023, the AHSAA imposed similar penalties due to violations relating to transfer policies, compounding the challenges facing the football program. The rigorous regulations under the AHSAA, particularly regarding coaching outside the school year, indicate strict oversight in maintaining fair competition. As the Conquerors seek to rebuild, their future in the playoffs remains uncertain, hinging on compliance with the conditions laid out by the AHSAA.
