U.S. Army Award $35 Million Telecommunications Contract for Marine Corps Base Hawaii
REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. — The U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center in Huntsville recently awarded a $35 million contract to enhance telecommunications at Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCBH), located on the Mokapu Peninsula. This Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract aims to upgrade the secure telecommunications infrastructure essential for operational support and readiness in the Indo-Asia Pacific Region.
Recognizing the urgent need for improved communication systems, MCBH officials reached out to Huntsville’s Facility Technology Integration (FTI) program after the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) announced it would not renew its existing contract. MCBH’s Communications and Information Systems Directorate lacked the internal capabilities to provide reliable services amid concerns over outdated technology.
Huntsville’s FTI project manager, Patrick Parten, emphasized the importance of the contract, which covers the complete lifecycle management of telecommunications systems at MCBH and its ancillary sites. The initiative includes supporting a transition to voice-over internet protocol technology to align with the U.S. Marine Corps’ modernization efforts under Force Design 2030.
Huntsville Center officials credited their contracting team’s swift action for ensuring the contract’s timely award, demonstrating effective communication with stakeholders. Col. Sebastien Joly, Huntsville Center commander, highlighted the commitment to deliver essential support for MCBH, preventing disruption to mission-critical operations.
