Kevin Greene to Highlight Calhoun County Sports Hall of Fame’s 20th Class
OXFORD — The Calhoun County Sports Hall of Fame is set to celebrate its 20th class with a special induction ceremony featuring Pro Football Hall of Famer and local legend Kevin Greene. Announced by new board president Connie Davidson during a press conference at the Oxford Civic Center, Greene will be inducted posthumously, increasing the total number of inductees to 124.
Scheduled for June 14, the induction ceremony promises to showcase remarkable talent from the region. Davidson expressed pride in this year’s class, noting the impressive array of athletes and their achievements. The inductees include:
- Kevin Greene: An Oxford native who excelled at Auburn University and went on to play for NFL teams such as the Rams, Steelers, Panthers, and 49ers, Greene also had a notable career in World Championship Wrestling.
- Delvin Hughley: A standout football and basketball player from Anniston High, Hughley played college football at Jacksonville State University before joining the NFL with the Ravens and Broncos, as well as participating in the Arena League with the Colorado Crush.
- Matthew Maniscalco: Recognized as Alabama’s first Mr. Baseball, Maniscalco played for Oxford High, Mississippi State University, and the Tampa Bay Rays organization.
- Chucky Miller: An Alexandria native, Miller serves as a basketball coach at Wellborn and Talladega high schools.
- Dr. Denise Peters: A multi-sport athlete from Jacksonville High, Peters participated in volleyball, soccer, and track, and played collegiate soccer at UAB.
- Tony Young: Known for his football prowess, Young played at Alexandria High and continued at Troy University.
This year’s ceremony promises to honor local sports legends and inspire future generations.
