Birmingham launches leadership program to boost small construction businesses
Birmingham Launches Steel City Leadership Cohort to Empower Small Construction Firms
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The City of Birmingham has unveiled the Steel City Leadership Cohort, a year-long initiative focused on enhancing leadership and workforce development within the local construction industry. Aimed at small construction firms, this program prioritizes the cultivation of human resources over just technical skills.
Erika Dix, Manager of Workforce and Talent Development, heralds the initiative as a crucial step in strengthening Birmingham’s workforce by equipping leaders with tools to foster team growth and improve workplace culture. The program addresses common challenges faced by small firms, such as team management and talent retention, providing participants with monthly leadership sessions and support in HR practices.
Sarah Wilson, Birmingham’s Deputy Director of Innovation and Economic Opportunity, emphasizes that while these firms excel in construction, the human resource aspect often poses difficulties. The cohort is crafted in partnership with People Optimum Consulting and the Townsend Advisory Group, targeting sustainable growth for small businesses lacking the resources of larger firms.
To qualify, applicants must be Birmingham-based construction companies with at least two employees and a commitment to enhancing their leadership strategies. This initiative offers a promising opportunity for businesses eager to invest in their workforce and fortify their future amid a competitive job market. For those interested, application details are available for further exploration.
