Alabama State Games Set to Begin in Birmingham
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The 42nd Alabama State Games will officially open on June 13 at the BJCC’s Legacy Arena, featuring over 20 sports across various venues in Jefferson County and nearby communities. The Games, running from June 13-15, are a testament to Birmingham’s strong history in hosting multi-sport events, according to Tonia Whatley, Director of Sports Business Development for the Birmingham Convention & Visitors Bureau. She emphasized the positive economic impact the Games generate for local hotels, restaurants, and attractions.
The opening ceremony schedule kicks off at 3 p.m. on June 13 with athlete check-in followed by GRIT 101, a new program aimed at helping teens navigate life’s challenges. The event will also host the State Farm Athlete Leadership Summit with keynote speaker Hall of Fame Coach Spence McCracken. The ceremony culminates at 7 p.m. with the Parade of Athletes and the Lighting of the Cauldron, showcasing the vibrant energy of the event, as noted by Laura Creel Burt, Executive Director & Vice President of the ASF Foundation.
For those unable to attend in person, the ceremony will be broadcast live by five Gray Television stations in Alabama and streamed on various platforms including ALAGAMES.com. This year’s Alabama State Games promise excitement and community engagement, making it a highlight on the local sports calendar.
