Class 7A football program hires veteran Alabama HS coach to lead way
Adam Winegarden has been appointed as the new head football coach at Albertville High School, marking his return to high school sports after a year as Troy University’s director of leadership and high school relations. Superintendent Bart Reeves expressed enthusiasm about Winegarden’s hiring, highlighting the positive feedback from state contacts about his character and coaching abilities.
Replacing Bert Browne, Winegarden previously led Tuscaloosa County, where he compiled a 12-18 record over three years. His earlier coaching stints include successful tenures at Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa, Fairhope, and Auburn, where he reached the Class 7A championship game in 2020 and holds an impressive career record of 117-48 in Alabama. Winegarden emphasized his desire to positively impact the community and foster growth at the high school level.
The challenge is significant; the Aggies have struggled with a 2-38 record in their last 40 games and have not won a playoff match since 2002. However, Reeves believes Winegarden’s confidence and commitment to building a strong program will drive improvement. Winegarden acknowledged the necessity for a collective effort among coaches, players, and the community to achieve success.
Winegarden is set to meet the team soon, and he is committed to aligning everyone’s efforts as they prepare for competition in Class 7A, Region 4, alongside formidable opponents like Austin and Bob Jones. The community’s support will be crucial as he aims to revitalize the football program.
