2024 All-Messenger Football Awards Announced: A Season of Stellar Performances
The 2024 All-Messenger Football Team honors outstanding athletes, with Coosa Christian’s Clete O’Bryant taking the title of Most Valuable Player. A senior linebacker, O’Bryant showcased remarkable instinct on the field despite lacking speed, racking up 125 tackles, including 25 for a loss, in just nine games. He achieved his 500th career tackle this season, earning him a spot as one of the top tacklers in Alabama history. Regrettably, Coosa’s postseason eligibility was compromised due to AHSA violations.
Notably recognized was Westbrook Christian’s Brody Blevins, named Offensive Player of the Year for his stellar 3,000 yards of combined offense as a sophomore quarterback. Southside’s Brayden Bowers earned Defensive Player of the Year honors with 135 tackles, showcasing his dominance on defense.
The awards extended with Levi Martin of Sardis being named Overall Athlete, while Offensive Athlete honors were shared between Etowah’s Jameson Scissum and Hokes Bluff’s Bryce Whitaker, both having impressive seasons. Ashville’s J.B. Potter received the Defensive Athlete accolade, while Coosa’s Jorge Cantellano was named Special Teams Player of the Year for his accuracy in kicking.
Ben Stewart, in his inaugural year as head coach at Southside, was recognized as Coach of the Year, leading his team to a commendable 6-4 record. The awards epitomize a year filled with hard work and remarkable talent across the league, highlighting the athletes’ dedication to their sport.
