22nd Annual Canine Classic 5K Run/Walk Set for Sept. 27 in Tuscaloosa
TUSCALOOSA, AL — The 22nd annual Canine Classic 5K Run/Walk is scheduled for Saturday, September 27, at Cardinal Park located at the Tuscaloosa National Airport, with proceeds benefiting the Humane Society of West Alabama. This volunteer-based, no-kill nonprofit has been a cornerstone for animal welfare in the region for over 50 years.
Participants can enter for a fee of $25, which includes a T-shirt and a swag bag for the first 150 registrants. Though the event is focused on humans, everyone enjoys the chance to win door prizes. Race organizer Anne Hornsby expressed her gratitude to supporters, emphasizing the importance of fundraising events like the Canine Classic in sustaining the organization’s mission to provide care and find homes for rescued animals.
Executive Director Brian Gaerity noted that this year’s race aims to be the largest yet, welcoming walkers, runners, children, and seniors alike. “It’s a fun event for a great cause,” he said, adding that the timing of the race offers a guilt-free indulgence in game day festivities, coinciding with the Alabama-Georgia game later that day.
The event features a flat, certified course designed to accommodate both runners and walkers, with snacks, fruit, and sports drinks provided for participants. For registration and more information, interested individuals can click the link provided.
