Coosa senior recognized at ASWA football banquet
Coosa Christian’s Clete O’Bryant Shines at Mr. Football Banquet
Coosa Christian senior Clete O’Bryant celebrated a remarkable high school football career by being named a finalist for the 2024 Class 2A Lineman of the Year at the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s Mr. Football banquet on January 28 in Montgomery. In his final season, O’Bryant made an impressive mark, recording 125 tackles—25 for a loss—while leading his team to a 9-1 record. He also achieved his milestone 500th career tackle, placing him 13th on the AHSAA all-time career tackle list. For his stellar performance, he secured a spot on the ASWA first-team Class 2A All-State team and was honored as the Player of the Year for the All-Messenger football team.
“It was an honor being there with so many great players,” O’Bryant commented, reflecting on his journey with Coosa Christian football, which he credits for his personal development. O’Bryant’s father, Mark O’Bryant, who is also the head coach at Coosa Christian, praised his son’s understanding of the game and leadership skills.
The Mr. Football title went to Saraland quarterback K.J. Lacey, who led his team to significant victories despite injuries. The banquet also highlighted the ASWA Super All-State team and recognized the Back and Lineman of the Year in various classifications. O’Bryant is notably the first player from Etowah County nominated for such honors since 2009.
