Shelton State to Host Second HammerBuild Event Sept. 20
Shelton State Community College Launches Second HammerBuild Session
TUSCALOOSA, AL — After a successful inaugural event, Shelton State Community College is set to host a second session of its HammerBuild program on September 20. This unique initiative offers an immersive learning experience where participants build a small house in just one day, utilizing essential skills such as math, teamwork, and goal setting, while also receiving workforce training.
Instructor Mark Brackin highlighted the vibrant community spirit fostered during the first session on September 6, where participants ranged in age from 20 to nearly 50. “We not only built a house, we built friendships,” he shared, emphasizing the valuable lessons learned by everyone involved, including himself. At the conclusion of each session, participants dismantle the house to make way for future classes, allowing for continuous learning and skill development.
Those interested in joining this hands-on educational experience can register by contacting Emily Wyatt at ewyatt@sheltonstate.edu. The HammerBuild program not only equips students with practical skills but also encourages community connection through collaborative projects.
