Alabama Football Expects Outside Linebacker ‘Back Sooner Than Later’
Alabama Football Prepares to Face LSU with Key Players Returning
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The No. 4 Alabama football team gears up to host the LSU Tigers this week at Bryant-Denny Stadium, fresh from a bye weekend. Head coach Kalen DeBoer shared optimistic updates on the health status of several players during a press conference. Notably, he confirmed that starting defensive player Geno VanDeMark has made significant recovery progress and is expected to participate in practice. Although Qua Russaw continues to improve, he is not anticipated to be ready for the LSU game this weekend. Defensive coordinator Kane Wommack praised Russaw’s rehabilitation, highlighting his diligent efforts and encouraging progress.
Danny Lewis Jr. has been limited this season, participating in just three games, but DeBoer is hopeful for his increased participation in practice leading up to the game against LSU. In Russaw’s absence, redshirt sophomore Yhonzae Pierre has stepped up, filling the gap effectively.
Alabama faces a challenging schedule ahead, with three SEC opponents lined up over the next four weeks, alongside a non-conference game against Eastern Illinois. The team is also dealing with season-ending injuries to Jah-Marien Latham and Jeremiah Beaman, impacting their defensive lineup. As the Crimson Tide prepares for a crucial matchup against LSU, the return of key players may bolster their performance at a pivotal time in the season.
