In a tragic incident that has shocked the local community, Jacob Eugene Mitchum, a 27-year-old man from Oxford, Alabama, has been charged with capital murder following the fatal shooting of two individuals in Fort Payne. According to court documents, the alleged incident occurred around 5:59 p.m. on Sunday in an apartment located on Alabama Avenue NW. Upon police arrival, officers discovered 27-year-old Alisha Nichole Keller and 24-year-old Logan Cordale Brown suffering from gunshot wounds in the kitchen area of the residence. Despite the emergency response efforts, both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
Mitchum was quickly identified as the prime suspect and was apprehended without resistance in Oxford, which is approximately 90 miles from Fort Payne, by local law enforcement. Eyewitness Joseph Nunen, a neighbor, described the frantic moments following the shooting, as police urged residents to secure their homes due to an active shooter situation. Fortunately, Nunen confirmed that young children present in the home at the time were not injured, as they were not inside during the incident.
