Alabama State Dominates Alabama A&M in Magic City Classic
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – In an electrifying showdown at Legion Field, Alabama State University (ASU) football triumphed over in-state rival Alabama A&M (AAM) with a decisive score of 56-13 during the 84th Magic City Classic, attended by 69,372 fans. This victory marked ASU’s fourth consecutive win in the storied rivalry.
Quarterback Andrew Body shone brightly, completing 19 of 24 passes for 304 yards and five touchdowns, while also notching a rushing score. His performance was instrumental in leading an Alabama State offense that amassed an impressive 616 total yards. The Hornets responded swiftly after Alabama A&M opened the scoring; they surged ahead with 21 unanswered points in the first quarter, including a standout 17-yard run from Marcus Harris II.
Throughout the first half, Body showcased his precision, tossing four touchdowns and setting up a commanding 49-6 lead by halftime. Offensive highlights included a 59-yard touchdown connection with Jalen Jones, who ended the game with seven receptions for 156 yards.
Defensively, ASU controlled the game, holding AAM to a mere 143 yards and forcing two interceptions alongside four sacks. The Hornets successfully converted all seven red-zone opportunities and maintained possession for over 33 minutes.
With the win, Alabama State improved to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in SWAC play, while Alabama A&M fell to 4-4 (1-3 SWAC). ASU will next face off against Prairie View A&M on November 1.
