Realizing the Dream Committee Launches 2026 Events with Theme of “Faith and Action”
The Realizing the Dream Committee is set to kick off the 2026 season with a series of impactful events centered around the theme “Realizing the Dream Through Faith and Action.” Celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy, the event lineup features esteemed voices from film, ministry, and music.
Among the highlights is the 17th Legacy Awards Banquet, scheduled for January 16 at 6:30 p.m. in Sellers Auditorium at the University of Alabama. Acclaimed actress Alfre Woodard, known for her impactful roles in projects like HBO’s “Mandela” and “12 Years a Slave,” will deliver the keynote address. Tickets for the banquet are available starting January 9 for $30 individually or $200 for a table of eight.
The event honors several remarkable individuals, including retired pastor Joseph Ellwanger, recipient of the Mountaintop Award for his civil rights activism; Rev. Arthur Price Jr., awarded the Call to Conscience Award for his impactful ministry, and Daphne Ayodele, a Stillman College student, receiving the Horizon Award for her contributions to health equity.
The season culminates in a concert featuring Smokie Norful on January 18 at 7:30 p.m. with tickets priced at $20. Following the concert, Unity Day activities on January 19 begin with a breakfast, a Unity March, and a rally with speaker Jared White.
