The fire was reported around 7:47 a.m. in the 1006 block of Wainwright Avenue, near Gadsden Fire Station #3. Fire crews from the station quickly responded and found the home heavily engulfed in flames. Neighbors had expressed concerns that someone might still be inside.
Battalion Chief Lecil Harrelson confirmed that firefighters discovered the elderly man deceased inside the residence. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and authorities are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
