Revitalization on the Horizon: Minth Group to Establish Major Manufacturing Campus in Gadsden
Gadsden, Alabama, is set to transform a long-abandoned steel site into a thriving manufacturing hub, thanks to an investment of $430 million from Minth Group Limited. City officials announced the development on Friday, highlighting its potential to create over 1,300 jobs on the 400-acre brownfield site that previously housed Republic Steel and Gulf States Steel, both of which once provided thousands of jobs.
Gadsden Mayor Craig Ford expressed optimism about the project, noting the devastation faced by the community following the closure of major employers like Gulf States Steel and Good Year. Despite these challenges, the city maintained its population, and Ford believes Minth’s investment will breathe new life into the area.
The new facility will focus on producing plastic and aluminum components for various automotive manufacturers, including Hyundai, Kia, Honda, Ford, General Motors, Mercedes, Mazda, and Volkswagen. Mayor Ford emphasized that this investment marks a significant step towards revitalizing Alabama’s industrial landscape. He credited collaborative efforts from local, state, and federal leaders, including President Donald Trump and Senator Katie Britt, for creating a conducive environment for this endeavor.
