AHSAA sanctions 2 North Alabama schools for spring sports rules violations
AHSAA Sanctions North Alabama High Schools for Violations
The Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) announced sanctions against Albertville High School and Cedar Bluff High School for rule violations affecting their spring sports teams. Both schools self-reported the infractions, which have led to fines and probation for their respective programs.
Albertville High School’s varsity and junior varsity boys soccer teams were penalized for fielding two ineligible players, violating the AHSAA’s Outside Participation Rule and Academic Rule. As part of the sanctions, the soccer program is required to forfeit all games in which these players participated. Additionally, the ineligible players will serve restitution by sitting out an equal number of games to those played while they were in violation.
Similarly, Cedar Bluff High School’s varsity baseball team faced consequences for playing an ineligible student, breaching the AHSAA’s Enrollment and Transfer Rules. This team’s sanctions also include forfeiting all games won with the ineligible player on the roster, who must also serve restitution by missing the same number of games.
These actions underscore the AHSAA’s commitment to enforcing rules designed to maintain the integrity of high school athletics. Both Albertville and Cedar Bluff schools are now on probation as they navigate the implications of these sanctions and work to ensure compliance in the future.
