Birmingham Celebrates the Grand Opening of the Coca-Cola Amphitheater
Birmingham recently celebrated the grand opening of its new Coca-Cola Amphitheater, a $50 million music venue located on the former site of Carraway Hospital. Seating 9,000, the amphitheater is a notable public-private partnership involving the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex, local government entities, Live Nation, and the Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The project’s announcement came in October 2022, when a funding package was approved. Construction commenced after a groundbreaking ceremony in June 2023 and was completed within a year. The venue’s development includes enhancements such as newly repaved streets, updated lighting, and improved landscaping, with a focus on accessibility.
Community engagement has been highlighted, with local leaders emphasizing the amphitheater’s positive impact on the area. Janet Maycock, president of Druid Hills, noted a commitment to continuing these community improvements. The venue is set to host 30 performances in the upcoming months, kicking off with comedian Matt Rife’s show, slated for this Sunday.
To address parking concerns, officials are introducing a shuttle service dubbed the “Uptown Jam Tram,” designed to facilitate transport from Protective Stadium to the amphitheater. With 2,400 nearby parking spaces and free shuttle services in place, attendees are expected to enjoy a seamless experience at the new venue. For further event details, residents can access information through the WVTM 13 app.
