Alabama congressman on committee that approved $69 billion for border security
Rep. Dale Strong Advocates for Enhanced Border Security Funding
U.S. Representative Dale Strong (R-Monrovia), representing North Alabama’s 5th Congressional District, recently voted in favor of significant border security funding as part of a budget reconciliation package. A member of the House Committee on Homeland Security, Strong emphasized the importance of the legislation, which allocates $69 billion to bolster the Department of Homeland Security’s initiatives aimed at improving border security.
Strong credited former President Donald Trump for his swift actions in resuming border wall construction and reinstating effective immigration enforcement policies, claiming these measures have made American citizens safer by reducing illegal immigration and dismantling criminal networks. “We must provide the necessary resources to support the president’s border security agenda,” he stated.
The budget focuses on a comprehensive overhaul of border security, including plans for a state-of-the-art border barrier system, additional frontline personnel such as Border Patrol agents, and enhanced surveillance technology. Specific funding is earmarked for construction of border barriers, new vehicles for border personnel, and equipment to detect dangerous substances like fentanyl at ports of entry.
Statistics reveal a marked decline in illegal crossings, with U.S. Customs and Border Protection reporting the lowest monthly average apprehensions in history in March 2025. The figures show a 14% decrease in apprehensions from the previous month and a staggering 95% drop from March 2024, highlighting the potential effectiveness of the renewed focus on border security initiatives.
