Alabama House Republicans Appoint James Lomax as Majority Whip
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Alabama’s House Republicans have officially appointed Rep. James Lomax of Huntsville as their new majority whip, a pivotal role in shaping the party’s legislative agenda. The majority whip is responsible for gauging caucus support for forthcoming legislation and facilitating communication between party leadership and the 76 Republican members. This position also entails coordinating strategies and logistics for key legislative initiatives.
Having been elected in 2022, Lomax has previously contributed to the House Caucus Platform Committee and sponsored significant legislation aimed at preventing foreign influence in Alabama elections. Expressing his gratitude, Lomax stated, “I am honored by the trust Majority Leader Lee and members of the Republican Caucus have placed in me to serve as Majority Whip.” He emphasized the importance of delivering results for constituents, mentioning his commitment to cutting taxes, supporting law enforcement, enhancing education, and fostering economic growth across Alabama.
Alongside Lomax, Rep. Chip Brown (R-Hollingers Island) has retained his role as vice chairman of the House Republican Caucus, a position he has held since 2024. Brown, representing District 105, actively participates in various committees, including Insurance and Economic Development.
Majority Leader Paul Lee expressed confidence in Lomax and Brown’s leadership, acknowledging their experience and dedication to serving the constituents of Alabama. As the caucus navigates upcoming legislative priorities, their roles will be crucial in delivering effective governance for the state.
