All-Calhoun County football – E.A. Sports Today
In the 2024 East Alabama Sports Today football honors, prominent athletes and coaches from Calhoun County were recognized for their outstanding performances. Todd Ginn of Alexandria was named Coach of the Year for the Class 4A-6A category, having transformed his team from a 1-9 record in 2023 to an impressive 8-4 and a second-round playoff advance. Mason Mims, Oxford’s standout quarterback and University of Louisville signee, earned the Player of the Year title, boasting a phenomenal season with 3,617 passing yards and leading Oxford to a 13-1 record.
The Class 4A-6A All-Calhoun County Team included notable first-team selections such as Cole Wheeler (Alexandria, QB) and defensive players like Keenan Britt (Oxford). The team’s Game of the Year featured a thrilling comeback as Mims led Oxford to a last-second victory over Mountain Brook.
In the Class 1A-3A category, Pleasant Valley’s Jonathan Nix was named Coach of the Year, leading his team to an 8-3 record and their first home playoff game in 40 years. Rollie Pinto from Piedmont stood out as the Player of the Year for breaking the AHSAA single-season record with 1,829 receiving yards. The prestigious honors showcase the remarkable talent and dedication within the East Alabama football community, celebrating exceptional athletic achievements across both classes.
