Taylor and Jackson Earn Top Honors in Calhoun County Football
In an exciting reveal, Oxford’s Jay’lin Taylor and Anniston’s Rico Jackson have taken home the prestigious accolades in East Alabama Sports Today’s 2025 Class 4A-6A All-Calhoun County football team. Taylor, a standout wide receiver, has been named the Player of the Year after an impressive season where he caught 74 passes for 1,142 yards and 12 touchdowns, also contributing to the Yellow Jackets with touchdowns on the ground and in special teams.
Jackson, who led the Anniston Bulldogs to a remarkable 14-1 record and a Class 4A runner-up finish, was recognized as Coach of the Year. This achievement marks Anniston’s first state final appearance since 1994 and is Jackson’s second as a head coach, previously leading Aliceville in 2016. His current record at Anniston stands at 27-11 over three seasons.
The highlight of the season was the Bulldogs’ nail-biting 20-18 victory over Alexandria, awarded Game of the Year, in a thrilling contest that ultimately decided the region champion.
The All-Calhoun County team showcases exceptional talent, honoring players across both first and second teams, including positions from quarterback to defense and special teams. Among notable mentions are athletes like Anniston’s Damon Pope and Alexandria’s Cole Wheeler, both of whom made significant contributions to their teams’ successes. As the football season wraps up, these players are celebrated for their efforts and achievements on the field.
