Alexandria’s Slaton and Hess Honored on All-Calhoun County Softball Team
In recent accolades from East Alabama Sports Today, Alexandria’s Pressley Slaton has been named the Class 4A-6A All-Calhoun County Player of the Year, while Alexandria coach Brian Hess earned the title of Coach of the Year. Slaton, a senior, had a stellar season, boasting a .427 batting average and a .497 on-base percentage, alongside an impressive tally of 14 home runs, 22 doubles, and 69 RBIs. On the mound, her record stood at 22-7 with a 2.305 ERA, 216 strikeouts, and 79 walks across 194 1/3 innings pitched.
Under Hess’s leadership, the Valley Cubs notched an outstanding record of 41-11-3, securing both county and area titles and reaching the final four in the Class 4A state tournament despite facing a tough schedule.
The All-Calhoun County team also highlights various talented players, with a First Team featuring pitcher Leighton Arnold (White Plains), catcher Charlee Parris (Alexandria), and others. The Second Team includes standout freshmen Avery Allen (Jacksonville) and Karli Otwell (White Plains), among others. Honorable mentions recognize additional talents from Alexandria, Anniston, Jacksonville, Oxford, and White Plains.
This recognition underscores the remarkable talent and dedication seen in Calhoun County softball this season.
