Spring Weather Update for Alabama: April 1, 2025
Alabama welcomes April with beautiful spring weather, featuring mostly sunny skies and temperatures reaching the 70s. South Alabama may see highs in the lower 80s today. As the week progresses, a strong ridge will develop over the Gulf Coast, leading to warmer conditions expected later this week with highs climbing between 85 to 90 degrees. This rising warmth could challenge record highs for early April in Birmingham, which are 87 degrees on April 3 (1999), 88 degrees on April 4 (1934), and 88 degrees on April 5 (2010). However, it is noteworthy that the earliest recorded 90-degree day in Alabama occurred on March 21, 1907.
Looking ahead to the weekend, Saturday is anticipated to bring another summer-like day with partly sunny weather and temperatures in the upper 80s. However, the pleasant weather may take a turn as showers and storms are expected to move in Saturday night into Sunday morning, particularly affecting northern and western counties. The Storm Prediction Center has indicated a risk of severe weather during this timeframe.
As the week concludes, a dramatic shift in temperatures is predicted, with cooler air settling in and some areas in North Alabama projected to remain in the 50s on Monday. Monday night frost and possible freezes are expected for the northern half of the state, although most of the week will remain dry.
This day in 1960 marked the launch of the first weather satellite, TIROS 1, which initiated a new era in meteorology.
