UAB Women’s Soccer Dominates Southern Miss, Winning 5-1
BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women’s soccer team (2-2-1) showcased an impressive performance on Sunday night, securing a 5-1 victory over Southern Miss (0-5-0) at PNC Field. This win marks a significant achievement for the Blazers, as they have now netted five goals in consecutive matches, a feat last accomplished in 2014.
Avery Berryman set the tone early by scoring in the 12th minute, assisted by Jette Zimmer. Berryman’s goal was her third of the season. Zimmer quickly followed suit, doubling the lead with her own goal in the 19th minute, courtesy of Caitlin Keeling’s assist. UAB continued to dominate, with Lola Sommer scoring her first goal of the season in the 31st minute, assisted by Berryman, to end the half at 3-0.
The second half saw Lauren Lucero score in the 51st minute, making it 4-0 with an assist from Abbey Burns. Southern Miss managed to get on the board with a penalty kick by Ryan Smith. However, senior Brielle Rochester marked her career milestone by scoring in the 70th minute, assisted again by Zimmer.
UAB outshot Southern Miss 21-10, with nine shots on goal. Looking ahead, the Blazers will host Western Kentucky on Thursday, September 4, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. CT.
