Whitney Smith Boggus and Anthony Jones Inducted into Huntsville-Madison County Athletic Hall of Fame
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Whitney Smith Boggus, a former standout bowler at Alabama A&M University, and Anthony Jones, the university’s former head football coach, have been selected for the Class of 2026 Huntsville-Madison County Athletic Hall of Fame. This prestigious inductee list also includes notable figures such as former Grambling State receiver Jeremy “Jerry” Gordon, Auburn All-America tackle Donnie Humphrey, and Olympian Toyin Augustus.
Boggus, a standout from 2004 to 2008, is celebrated as one of the most accomplished bowlers in university history. She earned various accolades, including the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Rookie of the Year and four-time All-SWAC First Team honors. Boggus is particularly noted for her record-breaking performances, her pivotal role in defeating Nebraska in the 2006 NCAA Women’s Bowling Championship, and having her jersey retired in 2010.
Anthony Jones, who coached the Bulldogs from 2002 to 2013, transformed the football program into a SWAC powerhouse, achieving eight winning seasons and a SWAC Championship title in 2006. Renowned for his disciplined coaching style, Jones developed several NFL-caliber athletes, including Pro Bowler Robert Mathis.
The Class of 2026 will be honored at a banquet on April 13, 2026, at the Von Braun Center’s Saturn Ballroom, celebrating their significant contributions to sports in the Huntsville-Madison County area.
