Jacksonville Upsets White Plains to Advance in Calhoun County Baseball Tournament
The Calhoun County baseball tournament saw an exciting first upset as No. 5 seed Jacksonville defeated No. 4 seed White Plains 3-2 in Saturday’s quarterfinals at Choccolocco Park. Jacksonville’s Jackson Askew delivered a stellar performance, pitching a complete game, allowing only five hits, and securing three strikeouts. Jackson Bonner contributed significantly with a 3-for-3 batting record, including two RBIs, leading the Golden Eagles to their first tournament upset.
In the other quarterfinals, top-seeded Oxford also won decisively, crushing Pleasant Valley 15-0, while No. 2 Alexandria triumphed over Donoho 9-5, and No. 3 Piedmont dominated Ohatchee with a 15-0 victory. Alexandria’s Emmitt Pinson stood out, allowing just four hits and striking out eight batters. Piedmont’s Carson Cleveland and Cole Austin combined for a no-hitter, showcasing their dominance with a strong pitching performance.
On Monday, the semifinals will feature Alexandria facing Piedmont at 5 p.m., followed by Jacksonville battling Oxford at 7 p.m. The championship game is set for Tuesday at 5 p.m. The tournament continues to heat up as teams vie for the title, with Jacksonville aiming to capitalize on their momentum from the upset victory.
