Alexandria Dominates in Calhoun County Softball Tournament, Prepares for Finals
In an impressive display at the Calhoun County Softball Tournament, top seed Alexandria powered through to the finals, scoring four home runs across two games. They first triumphed over Oxford with a 5-2 victory, led by Pressley Slaton, who pitched a complete game and hit a home run, alongside Allyssa Hunt’s two RBIs. Alexandria continued their stellar performance by overwhelming second seed Pleasant Valley 12-1, thanks to home runs from Hunt, Charlee Parris, and Brenlee Sparks.
Pleasant Valley advanced to face Alexandria in the winners’ bracket after narrowly beating White Plains 4-3 in their previous game, where Alexa Cranmer’s performance shone through. In the elimination bracket, Oxford eliminated Ohatchee with a resounding 21-4 victory, fueled by standout performances from Kylee Stephens and Jordyn Alexander.
The tournament’s concluding matches will determine the final competitor for Alexandria, with Oxford facing Pleasant Valley in an elimination game. The finals are scheduled for 7 p.m. at Jacksonville State University.
Coach Brian Hess of Alexandria expressed pride in his team’s resilience and growth throughout the tournament, particularly after overcoming a slow start. Slaton echoed this confidence, crediting team cohesion fostered through shared experiences. As the tournament approaches its climax, all eyes will be on Alexandria as they seek the championship title.
