Oxford Dominates Calhoun County Track Meet with Record-Breaking Performances
Oxford, AL – In a stellar display of athleticism, the Oxford Yellow Jackets clinched both the boys’ and girls’ team championships at the Calhoun County track meet, held at Choccolocco Park. The boys amassed a commanding 162 points to outdistance second-place Anniston, which scored 117.5 points, marking their eighth consecutive county title. Meanwhile, the girls narrowly edged out defending champion Alexandria, finishing with 147 points to Alexandria’s 139, marking their third title in four years.
Highlighting the event were standout performances from the most valuable athletes, Matt Tippets and Jereniah Wall. Tippets set a new county record in the 1,600-meter run, achieving a time of 4:29.12 while winning all three distance events. His teammate, Cedric Twyman, broke the 200-meter dash record with a time of 21.90 seconds, also winning the 100 meters and anchoring the victorious 4×100 relay team.
On the girls’ side, Wall excelled with strong finishes in the hurdles. Jacksonville Christian’s Mollie Mullinax made a significant impact in her first county meet by setting records in both the 100 and 300 hurdles. Additionally, Weaver’s athletes continued their tradition of excellence in hurdles, with KeShawn Allen and Harper Williams setting new meet standards.
Both teams celebrated their successes, showcasing depth and preparation as keys to their triumphs. Coach Landon Delozier emphasized the importance of recruiting talent and filling events to maintain competitive edge.
