In a thrilling display of athleticism at the Calhoun County cross country championships held at McClellan, White Plains emerged victorious in both the girls’ and boys’ races. The girls’ team clinched their second consecutive title, led by standout senior Maddyn Conn, who established a new course record with a time of 18:25.76. Conn’s remarkable performance also marked her third individual county title, a feat she attributed to her hard work and dedication as she aims for a third consecutive 4A state title on November 9.
White Plains secured the win against Jacksonville with a narrow margin of 36-40. Conn’s teammates, Abbie Dickeson and Shelby Wilkins, contributed to the team’s triumph with third and fifteenth-place finishes, respectively.
On the boys’ side, Oxford claimed victory with a slim score of 36-37 over White Plains, marking their third consecutive team title. Josh Duke from White Plains celebrated his first career win, finishing with a personal record time of 16:39.78. Duke’s emphatic finish showcased his determination after battling injuries in previous years.
With Oxford’s Matt Tippets and Case Payne finishing second and fourth, the Yellow Jackets showcased their depth and commitment to close racing, a hallmark of their cross-country tradition. Both teams now look forward to the upcoming competitive races, fueled by their recent successes.
