World Police and Fire Games Set to Kick Off in Birmingham
Birmingham, Alabama, is set to host the World Police and Fire Games from June 27 to July 6, drawing over 8,500 first responders from more than 70 countries. This global event will showcase over 60 sports, spanning traditional activities like cycling and golf, to unique challenges such as the ‘ultimate firefighter’ and dragon boat races. Organizer Kathy Boswell highlighted the wide variety of competitions available, which also includes wrist wrestling, CrossFit, and flag football, ensuring there’s something for everyone.
The event will commence with an opening ceremony at the BJCC Legacy Arena and wrap up with a closing ceremony at City Walk. Events will take place across Central Alabama, allowing spectators to engage with the diverse athletic showcase.
The World Police and Fire Games aim to honor the dedication and service of first responders, fostering community and camaraderie through competition. However, organizers are still seeking nearly 800 volunteers to help ensure the event’s success. Boswell emphasized the community spirit in Birmingham, describing it as second to none.
