Country’s longest high school football losing skid now at 92 as Columbia opens with loss
Columbia High School in Huntsville, Alabama, has set a new record for the longest all-time high school football losing streak in the United States, now standing at 92 losses. The streak began in 2015 and has far surpassed the previous record held by Georgia’s Glascock County High School, which endured 82 losses between 1990 and 1999. In their season opener, Columbia was decisively defeated by Priceville, with a final score of 53-6.
Documenting this difficult journey, Gatorade, alongside NFL Films, is producing a documentary titled “All the Reasons Not to Quit – The Columbia HS Story,” which aims to highlight the team’s resilience despite ongoing struggles. Former NFL wide receiver Sammie Coates is now the head coach, representing a new chapter for the team. Gatorade is offering additional support through sideline equipment, athlete connections, and hydration recommendations to help the players.
As the season progresses, Columbia is scheduled to face Huffman in their home opener next Friday, perhaps seeking to break the disheartening streak. The underdog story continues to capture attention, and with the documentary in the works, there is hope for both recognition and change for the struggling program.
