Florala Wildcats Compete in Small Town Showdown Tournament
In the recent Prep Baseball Alabama Small Town Showdown held at Sand Mountain Park in Albertville, the Florala Wildcats showcased their skills, finishing with a 1-2 record. The event took place from February 28 to March 1, marking a challenging experience for the Wildcats, who were the only 1A school present amidst tough competition. Overall, their season record stands at 5-3 after a prior loss to New Brockton.
Head coach Tyler Zessin expressed pride in his team’s resilience, especially considering that two of their opponents were last season’s final four contenders in their classifications. The Wildcats managed a strong start by defeating 3A Lauderdale County 7-5, with Dalton Jackson hitting a home run and standout performances from Easton Walsh, who pitched a complete game while striking out 11.
However, the Wildcats faced stiff competition in their second game, leading 5-3 against 3A Gordo before succumbing 8-5, despite Jackson’s impressive three-hit performance that included yet another home run. In their final match, they suffered a 9-0 defeat to 2A Bayshore Christian, with Noah Bryan and Jacob Lara each contributing a hit.
The Florala Wildcats will take to the field again on Monday, March 10, facing Elba, with the game set to commence at 4:30 p.m. The team remains optimistic as they continue their season.
