Ty Cole Takes Early Lead at Gadsden City Championship
Gadsden — Ty Cole displayed impressive skill as he secured the lead on the first day of the Gadsden City Championship, shooting a remarkable 6-under-par 66 at Twin Bridges. This performance puts him three strokes ahead of Corbin Holt from Tuscaloosa, who finished with a round of 69. The tournament serves as the second points event in the 2025 Calhoun County Golf Tour.
Cole previously finished third in the Anniston City Championship, where he recorded a Sunday-best score of 68. After fluctuating rounds this season of 72, 68, and now 66, Cole’s journey to the top was marked by a slow start; he managed to remain even through his front nine before igniting on the back nine. The turning point came at the 11th hole, where he achieved an eagle: “I finally didn’t hit it in the fairway bunker… Just got it on the green and made a long putt,” Cole recounted. From there, he surged, adding birdies at 12, 14, 15, 17, and 18.
Despite limited recent play, Cole has concentrated on his practice, leading to a successful day on the course. He noted, “I’ve been swinging it good on the range… just everything feeling good and taking it to the golf course.” As the championship progresses, eyes will be on Cole to see if he can maintain his lead and claim victory.
