Gadsden Police looking for second suspect in Sunday homicide
Gadsden Police Investigate Homicide of Dakota Hallmark as Suspect Found
GADSDEN, Ala. — A hearing under Aniah’s Law took place for Chrisshod Wallace, 22, involved in the early Sunday morning homicide of Dakota Hallmark. Hallmark was discovered dead in a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds around 4:48 a.m. Police quickly arrested Wallace later that day, charging him with murder.
During the hearing, Detective Sgt. James Grimes revealed that Wallace is not believed to be the shooter. Instead, he allegedly participated in a robbery of Hallmark and aided in transporting another suspect, still at large, to Anniston with stolen items. Witness accounts indicated that Hallmark was in a group playing dice and had substantial cash on him, prompting a confrontation where Wallace attempted to remove Hallmark’s necklace.
Security footage captured two vehicles leaving the scene post-shooting, one being Wallace’s. Despite Wallace admitting involvement in retrieving stolen items, he claimed he did not assault Hallmark.
Investigators found a gun at Wallace’s residence, but its connection to the Gadsden incident is uncertain. The weapon believed to have been used, a nine-millimeter Glock, remains missing. While the judge did not rule on the bond issue during the hearing, Wallace’s family advocated for his release, asserting he poses no threat to the community. Authorities request anyone with information about the case to contact Detective Sgt. Grimes.
