Joe Heller: A Master of Editorial Cartooning
Joe Heller, renowned for his editorial cartoons, served as the cartoonist for the Green Bay Press-Gazette in Wisconsin from 1985 until his layoff in July 2013. Despite this setback, Heller continues to create several cartoons each week, distributing them through his own syndicate, Heller Syndication. This venture has led to his work being featured in over 400 newspapers, solidifying his status as the most successful self-syndicated editorial cartoonist in the United States.
Heller’s sharp wit and insightful commentary have made his cartoons a staple in prominent publications including USA Today, the Denver Post, St. Paul Pioneer Press, The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and more. His accolades include 10 Best of Gannett awards, eight Milwaukee Press Club awards, and two honorable mentions for the John Fischetti Award, showcasing his impact on the field of editorial cartooning.
Now based in Green Bay with his wife, Pamela, Heller remains a prominent presence in the cartooning world, with his work regularly featured in the NKyTribune. His enduring legacy is marked by a commitment to comment on current events with humor and insight, making him a beloved figure among readers and a significant voice in American journalism.
