Renowned for his commitment to faith, family, and service, Gene leaves behind a loving daughter, Lynn Wood, and granddaughters Taylor and Addison Wood, along with siblings, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Juanita, and several family members.
As a devoted member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, Gene cherished his church community, often gathering for coffee and doughnuts where he engaged in spirited conversations and laughter. His enduring faith shaped the kindness he extended to everyone.
An alumnus of the University of Alabama, Gene was not only a former basketball player but also a passionate supporter of Alabama athletics. His recollections of the court and fond memories of the Crimson Tide showcased his loyalty and love for the university.
Remembered for his gentle spirit and unwavering generosity, Gene’s legacy of compassion and devotion will continue through his family and friends. His impact resonated deeply with those who knew him, making him a beloved figure in his community.
Visitation will take place at Holy Spirit Church in Tuscaloosa on March 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Mass at 11:00 a.m. and a celebration of life at noon. Gene Schumacher will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
