Georgia softball secures the first game of the series against Alabama 4-3 in Tuscaloosa | Georgia Sports
In a thrilling matchup, the No. 15 Georgia softball team edged out the Alabama Crimson Tide with a 4-3 victory in the first game of their weekend series, held at Rhoads Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala. This win improved Georgia’s record to 25-8 and 4-6 in SEC play.
Lilli Backes delivered an impressive performance, pitching five and two-thirds innings while allowing just one earned run on seven hits. Her dominant outing included eight strikeouts and only two walks, securing her 10th win of the season. Randi Roelling stepped in during the sixth inning to seal the game and nab her second save.
The Bulldogs amassed seven hits, with Jaydyn Goodwin leading the charge with two hits, including a critical sacrifice fly in the seventh that increased Georgia’s lead to 4-2. Other contributors included Sarah Gordon, Lyndi Rae Davis, and Emily Digby, who each recorded doubles. Dallis Goodnight also showcased her prowess with a triple.
Despite Alabama’s attempts to rally back with runs in the final three innings, Georgia held firm to clinch the series opener. The weekend holds special significance as all 15 SEC schools will don teal in memory of Alex Wilcox, a beloved Mississippi State player who courageously battled ovarian cancer, in an initiative titled “All for Alex.” The Bulldogs and Crimson Tide are set to face off again on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET, available for live streaming on SEC Network+.
