Goforth and win – E.A. Sports Today
Ken Goforth Triumphs at Gadsden Invitational, Overcoming Past Challenges
GADSDEN — Ken Goforth, a former collegiate golfer from Birmingham, exorcised old demons by winning the Gadsden Invitational at Gadsden Country Club. A difficult experience at the same course when he was 12 lingered in his memory, but on Sunday, he conquered it by shooting a tournament-low 7-under-par 64 during the final round.
Finishing the tournament with rounds of 68-70-64 for an impressive total of 11-under 202, Goforth outpaced four-time champion Ty Cole by six strokes and Andrew Gladden by seven. The competition began with Cole and Gladden tied for the lead after the first round, but as Goforth entered Sunday’s play four shots behind, he produced a stunning performance that nearly broke the course record of 62.
Reflecting on his day, Goforth noted that everything clicked, attributing his success to solid swings and a mindset focused on birdies. Birdies on the first three holes set the stage for his remarkable performance. He credited his playing partner, Chris Hummel, for helping him manage his nerves on the course.
Goforth’s victory marks his first win on the Calhoun County Golf Tour, which has returned to Gadsden Country Club this year. Currently studying entrepreneurship at UAB, Goforth expressed gratitude for the opportunity to compete and is excited about the future in golf.
