Holiday Arts Events In Tuscaloosa: Nutcracker And More
Holiday Tradition Shines in Tuscaloosa with “The Nutcracker”
Tuscaloosa is once again wrapped in the magic of the holiday season with the local performance of “The Nutcracker,” which opened on Thursday at the historic Bama Theater. This beloved ballet, staged by the Tuscaloosa Community Dancers, celebrates its 54th anniversary as a holiday tradition in the city. “The Nutcracker,” which premiered on December 18, 1892, at the Imperial Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg, Russia, takes audiences on a fantastical journey on Christmas Eve, followed by Tchaikovsky’s cherished “Nutcracker Suite,” a festive staple in itself.
The performance runs through Sunday, with tickets available for the 5:00 PM show tonight and a 2:00 PM matinee on Sunday. Founded in 1971, the Tuscaloosa Community Dancers aim to promote the art of dance in West Alabama.
In addition to the ballet, the Arts Council of Tuscaloosa is hosting a range of holiday events this season. On Tuesday, a screening of the 1994 film “The Santa Clause” will delight families. Other upcoming offerings include the Alabama Choir School Winter Concert on December 19, a showing of the classic “It’s a Wonderful Life” on December 22, and “Christmas at the Kranks” followed by “The Polar Express” on December 23. These performances reflect the area’s vibrant cultural scene and offer something for everyone during the festive season.
