Redstone-Huntsville AUSA Chapter Commemorates Battle of Mogadishu
This October, the Redstone-Huntsville AUSA Chapter will honor the 30th anniversary of the Battle of Mogadishu, a pivotal conflict in U.S. military history that resulted in the deaths of 18 American soldiers. The chapter is hosting two significant events aimed at preserving the memories of both the heroes who fought and the families who awaited their return.
The first event, “An Evening in Mogadishu: Remembering Black Hawk Down,” will take place on October 2 at 6:00 PM at The Jackson Center in Huntsville. This dinner and program feature personal accounts from veterans who participated in the battle, shedding light on the courage, sacrifice, and deep bonds formed during combat. Proceeds will benefit the U.S. Veterans Memorial Museum and the Army Heritage Center Foundation.
Earlier that day, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, “A Legacy Remembered: The Families of Black Hawk Down” will be held at Murray Hall, Huntsville Botanical Garden. This intimate gathering will highlight the experiences of Gold Star families, exploring the lasting impact of the battle on their lives and celebrating their resilience. Proceeds from this event will support the Night Stalker Association.
WAAY 31, the media sponsor for these events, encourages the community to join in remembering the sacrifices made during this critical moment in military history. Both events promise to be poignant tributes to courage and sacrifice. Tickets are available for reservation.
