Huntsville Fire and Rescue respond to fire at Chuy’s restaurant, no injuries reported
Fire Erupts at Chuy’s Restaurant in Huntsville
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — A fire at Chuy’s restaurant on Bob Wallace Ave. SW erupted Saturday morning around 7:25 a.m., prompting a swift response from Huntsville Fire and Rescue. The blaze, believed to have originated from a grease tank storage area outside the building, caused damage mainly to the exterior, while the interior remained unscathed.
Remarkably, the first responders were State Representative Andy Whitt and his wife, who noticed black smoke while driving by. Witnessing flames shoot up the restaurant’s wall following an explosion, they alerted three employees inside, ensuring their safe evacuation.
Louise Graffeo, manager of neighboring Monkees, expressed relief that the situation wasn’t worse, highlighting community concern about potential spread to adjoining businesses. “It looked pretty bad on TV,” she commented, emphasizing the gratitude that no injuries occurred.
Responding firefighters were quick to extinguish the fire, mitigating further damage. In a surprising turn, Chuy’s reopened later that day, showcasing resilience and commitment to service. Graffeo remarked on their swift reopening, quipping, “If everything is safe, then why not?”
While meteorologist Jeff Desnoyers noted significant lightning activity in the area at the time, the fire department is still investigating the exact cause, leaving the role of weather in the incident undetermined. Chuy’s has not yet made any comments regarding the event.
