Huntsville Hosts Thrilling 2025 Bowl Jam Skateboarding Event
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The vibrant community of Huntsville celebrated its rich skateboarding culture on Sunday with the annual 2025 Bowl Jam, co-hosted by Huntsville Parks & Recreation and The Skatepark Project. Held at the Get-A-Way Skatepark in John Hunt Park, this free event attracted skateboarders of all skill levels, who showcased their talents through impressive ollies, kickflips, and carves.
Parks & Recreation Director, James Gossett, emphasized the event’s importance, stating, “Bowl Jam is a great way to highlight a unique amenity in John Hunt Park and invite residents and visitors to learn more about the sport.” The Bowl Jam has become a cherished community event, thanks to the ongoing support of local leaders, who recognize the significance of skateboarding as a legitimate sport.
Alec Beck, Associate Advocacy Director at The Skateboard Project, pointed out the historical struggles of skateboarding in urban landscapes, praising Huntsville’s commitment to developing supportive spaces for this beloved pastime. The event featured professional athletes, including X Games legends and Olympic skateboarders such as Bucky Lasek and Lizzie Armanto, who led a skate clinic. Participants received free boards, helmets, and pads, allowing young skaters to enhance their skills while learning from the best in the sport.
The Bowl Jam successfully fostered community spirit and showcased the city’s dedication to promoting healthy, active lifestyles through skateboarding.
