Huntsville police arrest 10 on charges of attempted sex with children
Ten Arrested in Huntsville for Attempting to Engage in Unlawful Sexual Activities with Minors
In a significant bust, the Huntsville Police Department announced the arrest of ten individuals on a total of 34 charges related to unlawful sexual activities with minors. This operation, conducted in collaboration with the Madison County District Attorney’s office on June 13 and 14, aimed to identify and apprehend those seeking to exploit minors online. Undercover officers posed as children on various online platforms, where suspects initiated contact, believing they were communicating with underage individuals and arranged in-person meetings to exchange money or goods for sexual acts.
Police Chief Kirk Giles emphasized the department’s commitment to protecting children from online predators, stating, “We will continue to work aggressively to identify, investigate, and bring these offenders to justice.” Among the arrested individuals are Darryl Lamont Surles Jr., Marshae Deshawn Rivers, and Damien Darrell Jones, facing serious charges including first-degree human trafficking and electronic solicitation of a child, among others.
Each suspect is currently under investigation, with the option for additional charges as the inquiry continues. They are scheduled for Aniah’s Law hearings to determine if they can be held without bond due to the severity of their offenses. The authorities remain vigilant in their efforts to combat child exploitation and ensure the safety of the community’s youth.
