Huntsville special education teacher under review after concern around previous arrest
Huntsville Teacher Placed on Leave Amid Review of Past Arrest
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Brandy Taylor, a special education teacher at Hampton Cove Middle School, is currently out of the classroom pending an internal personnel review concerning her prior arrest. Principal Kris Martinez announced that Taylor will not have any contact with students during this investigation.
Taylor was arrested in 2017 for third-degree assault following an incident where she reportedly hit, bit, and beat a child with a belt while employed as a teacher in Albertville. Although she stepped down from her position after the arrest, she later appealed that decision and was subsequently found guilty of harassment. Taylor joined the Hampton Cove district in 2020, passing the necessary background check mandated by the Alabama State Department of Education.
In a statement, Principal Martinez addressed the concerns raised by parents and staff regarding Taylor’s past. He reassured the community that the school is committed to conducting a thorough review of the situation while prioritizing student safety. A substitute teacher will be assigned to ensure that affected students continue to receive the education they deserve during the review process.
The district has asked for patience from families and the community as they navigate this matter. WAFF 48 News will keep the public informed on developments as more information becomes available.
