Body of Missing Mother Found at Noccalula Falls
Gadsden, Ala. — Regina Smith, a 51-year-old mother, was found deceased at the gorge of Noccalula Falls on Tuesday, following a two-day search. Regina had last been seen on Sunday while rafting in Black Creek with her family. According to her husband, after enjoying time in the water with their children, Regina went around a bend and failed to return.
Emergency crews discovered her body shortly before noon. The search commenced at 8 p.m. on Sunday after her family reported her missing. Rescue teams from Cherokee, DeKalb, and St. Clair counties joined local agencies, including the Gadsden Fire Department and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, to assist in the efforts. Unfortunately, the search was paused overnight due to inclement weather but resumed early Monday morning.
Gadsden Fire Chief Vance Brown warned visitors to avoid the gorge, emphasizing its dangerous conditions. While Noccalula Falls Park remains open to the public, visitors are advised to stay away from the gorge trail. The community is mourning the loss, and updates on the situation are being provided by local news outlets.
