Navy Pulls Away in Second Half; Defeats UAB 38-24
UAB Football Falls to Navy Amid Weather Delays
In a challenging matchup at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, UAB’s football team suffered a 38-24 defeat to Navy on Saturday, marked by two significant weather delays in the second quarter. The game was tied 24-24 at halftime, but the Blazers (1-1, 0-1 American) struggled with turnovers in the second half, allowing Navy (2-0, 1-0 American) to secure the victory.
UAB quarterback Jalen Kitna had a standout performance, completing 22 of 32 passes for 304 yards and two touchdowns; however, his two second-half interceptions proved costly. The Blazers amassed 413 total yards, while Navy generated 463, with 295 of those coming from their powerful rushing attack led by quarterback Blake Horvath, who accounted for three total touchdowns.
The game commenced with an explosive pace, featuring five touchdowns in as many possessions before a weather delay interrupted play late in the second quarter. After the first hour-long delay, UAB’s Jevon Jackson managed to tie the game with a rushing touchdown, but Navy pulled ahead with opportunistic scoring following UAB turnovers.
UAB’s defense made notable contributions, including a career-high 11 tackles from senior safety Pierre Royster. Despite their efforts, Navy’s efficiency in exploiting turnovers ultimately sealed UAB’s fate.
UAB will look to rebound next Saturday against Akron at Protective Stadium, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. CT.
